The Tevis is always a challenge for this old man.  My horse has completed 4 
times .  Our team started slowly this year as  I .   was recovering from a 
broken collar bone acquired during the rides of March  on 3-22-03. Took it 
about 8 weeks to knit lost
a lot muscle and condition during that time.  Hate to miss this  r ide 
because it was my first completion in 1974.

The trail is challenging  but  Chuck Gabri and crew have done a
fantastic job and I feel that it is in the best shape in years.
Had  a ball  trotting downhill in the dark after Forest Hill.
I don't believe in flashlights or glo-bars as I feel that they
can blind your horse.  Had it happen one time and the horse fell
and that was all she wrote.

This old man and his horse got to about  3 miles from Francisco's
when my lack of conditioning caught up with me and my legs  went 
away.  J.S.Bach  was cleared to go after walking about 3 miles
but I let him down.  See you next year.  I think  I will start walking and 
running  tomorrow.   Dick Dawson
