Re: [RC] Tanna back and BSF Question - rides2faract of Angie's, but maybe one day! :-) Private lessons on request. :-) I have a question for those who have been to BSF and the Chicken Chase ride site. How do they compare? Is BSF harder in terms of terrain > than Chicken Chase? > Chicken Chase is constant up and down short climbs. BSF has a big descent down into the river gorge and then the climb out. Which is worse I guess would be according to whether you'd rather climb one huge flight of stairs, or go up and down 3 stairs all day. The most amazing thing about Chicken Chase to me was the lack of rocks. I'd never seen hilly terrain without rocks. Something about that being the edge of where a glacier went through or something. Someone said they considered BSF really rocky, but it's not what I call rocky. I've never padded there and both flat footed-Kaboot and Josie's horse Ben have won BC there. The gravel they put on the trail is put there because it's a heavily used horse trail, but it's a nice small gravel. The rocks down on the river are river rocks imbedded in the ground so they don't move when you hit them. They'll trip you, but they're not really the type I worry about stone bruises from. I've done the ride all but one year, and Josie rode that year, but never did 2 days when they went to a multi-day format so I may not have seen some of the trail they use... according to which day you ride. Heard some people commenting about the amount of sand on day one last time. I'd never thought of it as a sandy trail. I saw more girth rubs and scratches than I'd ever seen there when I rode on day 2. Big South Fork is one I'd definately go to if I had the chance. The only tip you need it to bring spray for chiggers. The field is notorious but it's no problem if you put on spray. Do your horse before you leave home.
