[RC] lameness (long) - Brittany Murphy

Hi all,
Can an improperly fitting saddle be producing pain (in
this case in the withers) without causing any scar
tissue, dry spots, or any of those other tell-tale
signs of saddle soreness? Also, could soreness in the
withers cause a vere lame-on-the-left-front horse?
My husbands horse has a 'mysterious lameness' that we
first noticed two months ago and has been on and off
since then. We've given her plenty of time off (only
2-3 easy rides in that two month period). The only
consistancy is a 'sore spot' on either side of her
withers. She's came up very lame twice. Once was about
3 days after a ride, so we didn't attribute saddle
soreness to it, and she could hardly put weight on
that left front. (No swelling, heat, anything in the
leg, just apparent sore withers) It was better within
a few days, except the wither soreness. A few weeks
later we went for a ride, no soreness. Tuesday night
we did a very easy trail ride, only out for an hour
and walked just about the whole thing, and she seemed
to have no soreness during or immediately after the
ride. Then yesterday morning, dead lame on the left
front again. Husband is calling the vet this morning,
but thought I'd run this by you and see if I could get
some opinions.
Thanks!
Brittany
