Afternoon, Ridecampers. Alot of talk about when to do a
100. There is a rider out there, an ultra-marathoner,
who did his first Limited Distance (30 miles) last summer (in
2002.) This past weekend he entered, and won (tied for
the win) and his horse won the Best Conditioned award on a TOUGH
100-miler. He was a fit fella. His horse was a fit
horse. They just did it. Rider
fitness, rider experience (gleaned from those who know in his Region and
willing to share), horse fitness (acquired from an exceptional endurance
rider), working together with the horse to learn to get down the trail, a
plan. Work the plan. He did it one mile at a time,
just kept going.
