RE: [RC] failing flex test - Libby & Quentin LlopAngie:
With the caveat that I am probably not the most experienced person to
answer you, let me say that nothing that you told us about the horse should
x it for 25 mi. A flex test stresses the tendons/ligaments around a joint
more than testing for arthritis. Scar tissue tends to have nocioceptors
(pain) in it, however it is very amenable to physiotherapy. A more telling
test to look for serious damage, i.e. arthritis, would be an x-ray. Many
sound horses fail flex tests. Many pass the flex test despite a few lame
steps. It is totally amazing what horses will recover from, if put on a
regimen of progressive loading. Rather than seeing this animal as a reject,
I see him as potentially a more rewarding challenge for your friend.
