Re: [RC] bugs - IbiteraaarrSusan, Our horses are pasture dwellers also and I'm in south Louisiana so we've had probs with mosquitos and face gnats. I don't know about a fly mask with repellent in it, but the absorbine bonnets with the ears do really well. They hold up nicely and the boys don't seem to mind them. For repellent, we use Miracle Coat. It's inexpensive, non-toxic, environmentally friendly and long lasting. It's waterbased, so it won't stay on with rain, but showers tend to curtail fly problems. We also implement SWAT for areas like sheaths, faces and ears. It runs around $7 here for a small little jar, but a little goes a long way.
