Re: [RC] 2001 Dodge problem - MagnumsmomI got a bad tank of Diesel out in Clayton NM. My 2000 always ran fine. We filled up out there in the middle of no-the-heck-where on Easter Sunday weekend and the minute I started the old Stumpy-the-Truck up he was definately not happy. I shut him down right away and walked back to make sure the tank was diesel and not gasoline! We fired him back up and he was fine all the way back to Santa Fe (250 miles?). The next day I drove him to work in ABQ and he was fine. Until I started him up to head back to Santa Fe. Then he ran very poorly and died. I sat for a minute, fired him back up and he was fine. Took him straight to the dealer. Called them on my cellphone to tell them I was on my way. Water in the diesel. Water in diesel can ruin your fuel pump, not to mention your fuel filter. They replaced my fuel pump under warranty (the Cummins has a 100K mile warranty on it) and I suspect drained the water out of my diesel tank. I've never run him out of fuel. He did show a code at the dealer... they said the fuel pump was "out of specs". This truck has been great. The only trouble he's had in over 105K miles is operator or contaminant related. I didn't have the extra $1600 to buy the extended 100K mile bumper to bumper warranty when I bought him so we've done with out and he's been just fine... nothing that would have been covered under warranty anyways. By the way, the dealer told me in Oct 1999 when I ordered him that if I decided to take the 100K mile warranty and did not use it (or did not use it all) they would refund the full amount or the difference when he went off of the warranty... so it was a no-risk deal. Unfortunately, I got layed off (from Nickelodeon Online) before I could make the first payment and never did the extended warranty... but then it wasn't an issue anyways. I am very happy with my Dodge Cummins.
