Re: [RC] Question for Ride and Tie people - Lysane Cree

My experience with the Wintec is that you don't have
to cut any holes anywhere. The stirrup bar is placed
so that you have the option of placing your stirrup
leathers/webbers either over or under the flap.
Personally, I find that putting them under the flap
eliminates the pinching, but then I feel wierd about
the stirrup and how my foot sits in it because there
is less movement - sometimes I want to move my foot
around and my leg resting on the flap keeps the
stirrup leather from moving as freely. And the bottom
part of the flap feels annoying on my ankle because my
stirrup ends up sitting just below the edge of the
flap, with my ankle at the flap. Maybe I just need to
get used to it more, or ride in longer stirrups
(although they are pretty long now). Hmmm...I'll have
to try all this again and give it another shot.
I had more pinching with the stirrup leathers than the
webbers but even the webbers left marks on my calves.
My solution was to ride in English riding tights (they
are cheaper than the actual riding pants) - light,
stretchy cotton but with the suede knee patches.
Although on a 25 mile ride I did get a little bit of
bruising at the calf although no pinching.
Another thing I have considered but have not done yet,
is to put fleece coverings over the webbers (with
webbers on top of saddle flap, of course). Some places
sell fleece stirrup leather covers, but the fleece
pieces that are sold as halter covers would probably
work (the longest pieces) if you had some laying
around.

Hope this helps.
