[RC] Saddle - best value & comfort? - heidi sowardsSharon, look into the Free and Easy Saddle that Marlene Moss distributes here in the U.S. I've never sat on anything more comfortable and it truly seems to be fitting my stocky arabs back. It's adjustable and sits your legs where they belong. I have lower back problems and my wintec and thorowgood killed my lower back, but not any more! There is no more leaning forward or backward in order to get your legs under you. Also, you can adjust where you want to hang your stirrups. Marlene just did a fitting clinic in my general area about 2 weeks ago, I took Ash and had her readjust. He's only 7 years old, was "plush" last year when it was fitted originally and he's in much better shape. It once again fits like a glove, (it wasn't off by much however) I rode 10 miles on Sunday and the sweat pattern was totally even. Cost is relatively average for this saddle I'd say, although I did buy the lower end Trekker. Leather is exceptional and I've not had any problems with this saddle. Look into one if you can, you won't be sorry!!! heidi --- sharon1359@xxxxxxxxxxx wrote: Hi, I'm growing increasingly disgusted with the saddle I bought a year or so ago, around the time I bought my horse. Being new to distance riding, I thought that just because a saddle had "endurance" in the name, it would be comfortable. Even after having a saddle fitter adjust it to my horse, we're both still having problems. 'Nuff said about old history... My horse is a 7yo 850# 14.2h Arab/Rocky Mountain Horse, and he's gaited. He takes a medium-wide tree, I'd guess. Not only does the new saddle need to fit him really well (which of course is obvious) and give him lots of shoulder room so he can really stride out, but *I NEED* a really really REALLY comfortable seat for my bony butt. I also need the stirrups to be back far enough so I can get my feet under my hips. We're currently doing both CTR (up to 2-day 50's) and Endurance (up to 50) but we're doing it all slow - this is our hobby not our profession! I have a very small budget... as in, will have to pay with several different credit cards. I'd love to find something used because it would be less expensive, but I suspect it would be like me buying shoes at Good Will... it wouldn't "break in" to his back like a new saddle would. (Am I wrong?) Does anyone have any thoughts for me in this search? What brands are a really good value when they're new? What brands might fit OK even though they're used?
