[RC] New 30 minute rule for 50s - Long - GarnerTCan someone in the know help me out with this question? At a recent ride in the W region, the vets described the new AERC rule that the horses entered in the 50 must have a P & R within 30 minutes & reach criteria before receiving their completion at the end of the ride. As I understood the ruling, this was not supposed to be the finish time for the 50s, but only to receive the completion. The old rule stated you needed to see the vet & receive your P & R within 1 hour. At this ride, the completion time was given to the 50s when they went over for their P & R, not when they crossed the finish line. I've done a lot of LDs, so I know that my completion time for a LD is when the horse pulses down, not when they cross the finish line. The way the 50 was done on this ride, it was when they had their P & R done. Did the vets misunderstand the rule, or did I? If I had known, I would have gone straight to the P & R person. Instead, I took the horse over to the trailer, unsaddled her, hosed her off, let her eat & drink a bit, THEN went over within the 30 minutes for my P & R. I ended up next-to-last for the ride. (However, I did receive a Turtle award since the last place person had left!). Please clarify for me! I'm not really complaining since I was practically dead last, but for the top 10 people, this could be a factor!
