Re: [RC] [RC] Tell your story (long) - firedancefarmsAs one who has had four that ruptured their stomachs, I will post the reasons. #1. got into some clover seed and it caused a toxic reaction, causing extreme gas (stallion) (the other horse that got into it as well had no reaction at all) #2. drank a bunch of water and ran around (2 year old stallion, son of the above)This actually happened at the vet's and was observed the entire time. #3. a enterolith of persimmon pulp stuck in the sphincter (another son of the above) #4. turned out to grass and dead the next day. Ruptured stomach was full of grass (no relation...mare) #5. not autopsied. Colic death. Long term antibiotic usage causing a possible imbalance of bacteria (son of above stallion) So, what does this tell me? A genetic predisposition, most likely. The reasons are terribly varied, and you can't prevent everything.
