Should have also mentioned that in addition, while one is going through this
normal learning curve, one does not inflict one's horse upon groups of
riders trying patiently to just do the course.  One stays off to the side
and waits for gaps at vet checks, one drinks last at the water tanks, one
stays well back at bottlenecks on the trail, etc., until one has gotten
one's horse more thoroughly schooled in equine public etiquette, regardless
of gender.
