[RC] Carbo - Roger RittenhouseFrank I wont go into the long drawn out discussion on this Look in the archives for all the CARBO WARS - me, Susan and others. All you want to know is there. Based on over 5 years of testing and use, I found the major problem is far too many riders OVER DOSE and PRE-LOAD. AND - very important fail to KEEP using it every 1 to 1.5 hr.. small does many times Sort of like the new elyte protocol, small doses every 10 miles or so vs big slugs in the VC I NEVER pre-load, it is the same as a grain overload, will almost guarrantee and tie-up or recover or other muscle problems. I MAY give a small dose at the start one oz- - NORMAL protocol is ONE OZ per hour on the avg. I may wait till the VC if 10 to 15 mile loop. I may give 2 oz in the last VC of the 50. Most I ever gave at VC 3 (50) was 3 oz. We had to gallop 13 miles in 45 minutes to make the time. He did and all was fine. Just read the archives or we can go private to keep the flames of the buring glycogen out of RC. Its a HOT subject. I use UCKELE CARBO LOAD a med chain malto-dextrose- SLOW on the up-take. I NEVER use BROWN SUGAR or CORN SYRUP ( pancake syrup) as a number of big dog riders do.. so far they appear to get away with it I am sure Dr Susan will get in on this one for sure Roger R From: DVeritas@xxxxxxx Subject: [RC] 50/100Milers Who Use CARBO CHARGE I was wondering if there are any 50 or 100 mile riders out there who are using Carbo Charge successfully during 50 or 100 mile events. If so, would you share the method you use it. I have visited with a couple of folks who use it and have suspicions that he might have (in some way) contributed to a cramping or tying up episode in their horses.
