This was a movie with  great lessons:   the speed demon who burnt out

his

horse, the TB's owner with $ & ego, the family man who was looking for
survival money for his family, the old timer & one last ride, and Gene
Hackman as the humane competitor who cared for his horse & was self
scrificing for others and had integrity plus a couple 'cheaters'.

And you're right the lathered slow motion scene where the saddle is

stripped

of and there's a "dry back"...OOOPS!
Major oversight.

Am I the only one who is not a fan of this movie?  In the movie, the
character Jan Michael Vincent
plays literally rides a horse to death....he keeps beating it as it

attempts

to run
in the sand dunes, and it gallops, drops and dies all in slow motion.

Not

entertainment in my book.
Even if no horses were hurt in the movie, sure don't want to watch

that.
