[RC] Cincuenta de Anos Ride - Long - GarnerTI've been finishing up the last week of school (hurrah), so I haven't been on Ride Camp very much, but I am a little surprised by the lack of comments about John's ride. I can't decide if it's a bad thing, or as Martha Stewart would say, "A good thing." The ride was fantastic. The 50 milers took off at 5:30. I was riding with a friend who had a young horse, so we were at the back of the pack. I even was behind Trilby and John some of the time! We had a great time. The vet checks had outstanding food for us, all our gear had been trailered out for us, and there were lots of vets, P & R people, horse holding people, port-a-pots, etc. The ride was very pretty - some rolling hills, one steep hill, lots of oak trees, a creek we crossed a zillion times, and a lot of stock tanks on the 2nd loop in particular. We had a very interesting history on the ranch given to us Friday night & some insight on all the critters we might see: deer, mountain lion, bobcat, wild turkeys, snakes, etc. The only one that caught my attention was the black bear in the stock tank. I can tell you I was cautious approaching the stock tanks! However, the only things I saw were some HUGE carp in the river, a jack rabbit that just kept running on the trail in front of us, a blue bird, and several Baltimore Orioles! The dinner Saturday night was really good, not too spicy for me! We had Cajun food, with pork to go along with it. For desert, bread pudding with raisins, walnuts, and rum sauce! The band that played that evening was fantastic. The Soul City Survivors... they were great. We danced and sang with them (I'm now an honorary Survivorette!) and had a great time. John even had a dance floor brought in for his birthday celebration. All the children at the ride had been given Mardi Gras beads by the band and they were so cute. One little girl insisted on sharing her beads with us and I still have them. The flowered shirts were great, when my logo starts to fade, I'm going to have it sewn back on! Thanks for a great ride, John. Kathy Garner =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
