Re: [RC] Dietary Vit E for fat? - suendavidOn the discussion about feeding fat / oil, it has been stated that Vit E should be fed in addition so that the fat / oil is absorbed better. Well, just to be persnickety, vit E doesn't improve absorption of dietary fats. It is an antioxidant, so the addition is just a protective measure against any rancidity, free radicals and peroxides present along with the fat. What would be the best dietary Vit E to feed? Fresh green pasture, actually. Aloe Vera juice? And how refined or not should it be? Would human dietary vit E be too refined? In what quantity / ratio should the vit E be given? Or would a good Vitamin / mineral supplement do the trick? If you don't have green pasture available, there are several ways you can go. The human gelcaps from WalMart work just fine, are a stable form if the caps aren't opened way ahead of time and are pretty cost effective. There are plenty of commercial vitamin E supplements available, but any exposure to air, light or heat makes its efficacy in question. Stabilized rice bran is also a good source, and some manufacturers are claiming its vitamin E activity is better than other forms. To my knowledge, however, the claims are not yet substantiated by peer-reviewed data.
