[RC] I want to invent a new sport... - A. PerezI have yet to even get to a LD, so I highly doubt I'll ever get beyond that distance. If I DO remain a life-time LDer, and want to actually COMPETE, it seems I'm out of luck, as LD rides are 'just training rides', and one is expected to move up to 50s or 100s, which are few and far between and which I don't have the time to train for or travel to. I want a new sport... .... one that can be completed in a day: no camping, no huge investment in live-in trailers, no entire weekend lost to competition; ... one that can be held at more venues, venues that do not have thousands of acres or miles and miles of trails (ie: on the east coast), so that more events could be available; ... one that does not have to be held in conjunction with a 'real' endurance ride, again so that more events could be available; And no, I am NOT talking CTR. I am talking some sort of 'long-but-not-THAT-long distance' RACE. I am thinking of something that is to endurance what a 10K race is to a marathon: a legitimate event in it's own right. Not all runners care to train for marathons, but may still want to compete: likewise not all riders want to train for a 50 or 100 miler but may still want to compete in some event. Here is my question: could a 10/15/20 mile horse RACE on trails (not flat-track) be made 'safe', or at least safer? If so, how? Limit it to horses 5 years or older? More vet checks? Stricter criteria for 'fit to continue'? ________________________________________________ Get your own "800" number Voicemail, fax, email, and a lot more http://www.ureach.com/reg/tag =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
