Heidi I don't know a durn thing about the bioavailability of calcium carbonate in humans, but in horses, the prevailing data is that it's about 75% bioavailable, ASSUMING no interfering or competing factors like high neutral detergent fiber, phosphorus, oxalates and so on. Based on that, then the calcium in TUMS should be reasonably available if you're not feeding it with raw spinach or tons of rice bran or anything like that.
