[RC] Susan G.\ vets ?nutrition and EPM - Laurie Durgin

I hope Susan /and or other vets can help with this. I am getting advice to give Rascal/newly diagnosed with EPM with what I judge to be grade 2/3 neurologically symptoms some exta suppliments. He has Hay 24/7 gets 1-2 lbs beet pulp soaked wiith about 1 lb a whole grains with that has bvitamins/biotin/yeast (Denhams Showtime out of Alabama). I also give some 'Sho-glo " vitamins. I was told he should have wxtra E, C and maybe fastrac or a probiotics to replace the intestinal bacteria the meds may kill. He is on the old meds this week (anti-maliarial, and sulfa drug) till I get the Marquis from Smartpak next tue.
Should I add anything and how much?Is he at risk for Ulcers?(I was at the conventions and took notes). He shows no symptoms of ulcers externally, his only stress is me riding him in his home territory. Not now of course, he is turned out 24/7 with hay and his buddies with an open barn in bad weather.Not much grass here. He is eating fine.
And what about oil? I was puttiong in about 1/4 cup of oil, but temp. stopped as I was concerned about maybe it interfering with medication absorbtion.Course I am not riding him and his body condition iis at least 5.5(he gets fat easy). He is muscled up pretty good(lots of hill work)I don 't see any muscle wasting I've heard about. The symptoms came on suddenly, He was fine up and down the hills for 1.34 hr. Tue. the 29th, now he is wobbly and sometimes throws his him in a circle and doesn't pivot well on the rear , but as of now it itsn't any more serious than that.(he is 11).No prior lamness or illness). thanks Laurie Aerc#M32354)got it yesterday, very bittersweet) Rascal's mom
