[RC] here fishy, fishy - Jonni JewellI too have gold fish in our water trough. Got them at Petsmart for a dime each. That was over 2 years ago. It is about a 200 gallon trough. They eat any larva, and some of the bugs that hit the surface. I do not feed them anything. The trough freezes over in the winter, and in the Texas summer it is in direct sunlight. They are VERY hardy. They do love to come nibble at the horses lips for food droppings, and LOVE carrot chunks. At a dime each, it was not a huge investment to try them out. I have a big 5" PVC pipe elbow in the bottom of the tank for them to hide if they want. I started with over a dozen, but over the years, I think critters (one of my sneaky cats I think) have managed to scoop them out, so I am down to 3. They are about 4-5" long now, and still do as good of a job eating things as they did when there was more, so I have not added anymore. No adding food, drops, or worrying about the water temp.
