My dad and I were riding on a small 240-acre piece of property that he owns
in the Valley Springs foothills of California one pretty day 30 years ago,
and galloped up to the top of a hill only to have the horses stop dead in
their tracks. A herd of Buffalo from a ranch 20 miles away had gotten loose
and were traveling across country. They don't seem to care about walking
through barbed wire fences. We ran right into the middle of them. They
immediately made their circle around us and let me tell you, it was quite
the exciting picture! Fortunately, they weren't quite done making their
circle before it dawned on us we'd better step on the gas and get out of
there.
