Hi All: I had a total knee replacement last March, in six
weeks I was able to get about very well (walking). The thinks to remember are to
make sure you do your stretching exercises religiously (what ever that means).
Even if it hurts like (Hell) the dickens.
I have done tons of hiking through the canyons around Cool
(Tevis trail) and though I was in pretty good shape (legs). The first time
that I went for a ride at about 11 months post surgery, I found that after
about 2 miles of easy hilly riding with posting my left (new knee) was like
rubber and shaky although I could still walk OK.
The good news is that on this day there was no pain from
the joint itself which was a big improvement over the past 20 years which I
have ridden. The bad news is it hurts in different places, but does allow me to
ride with a lot less pain from the moving parts. Remember to stretch, stretch,
Stretch, and do you other muscle strengthing exercises.
If your are lazy you "WILL" lose your range of motion in
that leg and you may have to have additional procures to "attempt" to get your
range of motion back.
PS take your medication before the pain comes in catch up
doesn't work well on pain.

Who has had it,
how long did it take to get back on the horse, ....get strong...... do they
go back to normal?. Uggggg who kneeds this! Annie
First let me say... Nice Pun "who KNEEDS
this!"..... very funny.
Anyway onto the knee. What are you
having done? Orthoscopic? I had the Orthoscopic in late November
of 99... I had bone chips removed and some cartilage repaired ... blah
... blah I was feeling better by Christmas. I didn't attempt to
ride till January though... I didn't want to go through that crap again!
I started slow in January ... and just kept going. At first it felt VERY
weird. Kinda like you have new rubber bands in your knee.

It took about 13 months before I could bend the knee 'like I
used to.' But it is still going strong.... Now the other
knee....
My BEST advice... Do it in the off season... Take lots of
drugs till then! Happy Kneeding! Jinnifer Plummer
