RE: [RC] The downside of bungees - Snodgrass, BonnieThis is why I buy my own bungee and have them made up. Many are made of small strings of rubber. The type I buy are wide flat bands. I recommend if you know you have a puller or aren't sure, then use a long bungee, double it over, pass the bight thru the tie ring on the trailer, pass both snaps thru the bight to form a sort of knot and snap both snaps to the horses halter. There is no single thickness of bungee taking all the strain this way. If one of the snaps should give it moves away from the horse towards the trailer. My friend had her wrist severely damaged when her horse pulled back while tied at the trailer. His 'made for horses' bungee tie broke at the snap attached to his halter. The bungee and broken snap flew back like a sling-shot mini cannonball straight at her and would have hit her in the forehead if she hadn't gotten her hand up and in the way in time. So if you use bungees, don't ever stand where a recoiling one's hardware can hit you. And what if the snap hooked to the trailer would have snapped instead? Would that have recoiled to hit her horse in the face? Kristi ===== __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier.
