[RC] Little Manistee - Karen CasemierI just wanted to add what a BLAST I had this weekend. I was a complete newbie to the sport, but I learned so much working a the vet checks. From just this one ride I have a much better idea of how to train at home and what to expect at my first ride. And I'm also sure that this year it will be CTR for me - I'm not ready for endurance (yet). And I have to agree with Maggie about Gene and Shelley - they rode without a crew, but my god, they work together like a well-oiled machine. I had to leave Saturday evening before awards (my husband threw his back out on Friday, plus we had to pick up a new horse on Sunday), and it was great to hear in Maggies report that Shelley won the best condition.I'll definitely volunteer at another ride or two before I do my own first CTR. I highly recommend volunteering to anyone interested in the sport - it is a great way to learn. And the vets were wonderful. I asked poor Steve tons of questions during slow times, and he was great at explaining everything to me. Even if you don't want to do distance riding, you can still learn a lot about horse care and conditioning at these vet checks. _________________________________________________________________ Add photos to your e-mail with MSN 8.
