Please be very careful using people shampoo on horses.  Because we don't
have much body hair, our skin is tougher than that of horses.  We can use
their shampoo, but ours is hard on them.

You might try the old show trick of using fabric softener like "Downey" to

soften and condition horse tails.  I've seen $100k quarter horses kept with
this regimen along with Suave people shampoo at $1.50 per bottle.
