Guess
this is kind of a YMMV thing. I just spent the last 3 days giving one of
my idiots 25cc of penecillin 2X a day and used the chest muscles with no
swelling and no reaction.

Re:Vaccinations
I talked to my vet when he was giving the
WNV booster recently and mentioned the discussion on Ridecamp about
injection sites. He was definitely against giving injections in the rump,
for the exact reasons we all discussed before. I mentioned the pectoral
muscles and he was not in favor of that site, either. He much prefers the
neck site.
" Thanks to
all those ridecampers who suggested giving IM injections in chest(pecs). I
tried it this weekend and even the needle shy mare never even reacted! Soo
easy :)"
After all the talk on vaccination sites on
ridecamp this spring I also gave my injections in the chest this year ,
over 20 of them . Gave all the WN with no problems , went to give a 5
way booster (a week later) to my young endurance prospect and 3 hours
later when I went to catch her for the shoer she had a lump the size of a
grapefruit hanging off her chest . She was also dragging her foot on that side
, obviously it was very painfull . I called my vet and he had me give her some
bute and put the hose on it a couple times that afternoon . Then he bawled me
out for giving them in the chest as he said he had seen more swellings there
than any other injection site . Thankfully by morning the swelling was reduced
by half and keeps going down everyday . Needless to say I am back giving them
in the neck where I have never had a swelling .
