Re: [RC] [Guest] 22 year old Gelding ADR (Ain't doing right) - Susan GarlinghouseHey guys, I'm looking for some assistance. My 22 year old gelding Dandi, Coliced at the end of the Big Hill ride last weekend, and still just doesn't seem right. Has he had a rectal exam? Sounds more like potential displacement of some sort to me. I decided I will run him by the vets for blood work at least. However, since I've been reading about gastric ulcers, I was leaning towards that diagnosis. Any ideas? I'm also wondering about enteriliths, or a fatty lipoma.. Geez, I can think of about a hundred differentials without more information at this point. Gastric ulcers wouldn't present quite the way you described, but may be a contributing factor. Enteroliths may also be a contributing factor to a displacement or impaction issue, but I'd think he'd be more of a chronic colicker if rocks were the primary problem. Lipoma is pretty high on the list given his age, but most of the (strangulating) lipomas that come into CSU are of a much more acute nature, not just an ADR thing. In any case, your horse needs a good thorough work up exam, not just bloodwork. Good luck.
