I've gone through laminitis, a torn suspensory and a snapped sesamoid 
on my favourite mare and she's still in there. I wouldn't dream of 
competing on her in sand (which is all they use here) but she's a 
darling for ripping around the dirt roads and trails in the 
countryside.  Jumps ditches like a dream and isn't afraid of anything.  
She's had a lot of time off over the last 7 years, but I figure that 
it's worth it every time we go out together.
