Re: [RC] Rios brother - Barbara McCraryThe other horse was (something or other) Cameo. Roshan was a horse that Becky bought from Ron Waltenspiel who bought him from our daughter Ellen, who bought him from a lady up on the Skyline, but can't remember her name. Roshan was 1/2 Arab, 1/2 Saddlebred and had a difficult temperament that Ellen was unwilling to put up with. He also had the much-coveted (in show circles)Arab flat croup, really quite a lovely horse to look at. But that flat croup was a huge disadvantage in climbing and descending steep hills, and anyone who's been around our part of the country knows what our hills are like! I remember Courtney telling the story of buying Cameo and the sellers telling him to just take Rio because they didn't want him or he was too small or some such reason. Courtney was always proud of the fact that the world's champion endurance horse had been a freebie. I remember thinking that's all very well, but Rio's success was due in great measure to Becky's skill in riding him.
