Re: [RC] loose salt: what kind? - Sarah McIntoshAny feed store should have plain 'feed grade' salt. Costs about $5 per 55 lb bag CDN. 99.8% salt, a few minor mineral impurities, nothing harmful. The analysis for the one we have does not have an iodine claim. The only problem with the loose salt, is it sets up on the Wet Coast of British Columbia. I have been putting out a cup at a time, and my 3 horses have been eating it up enthusiastically. Eleanor Kellon, DVM has stated that MOST horses will never OD on salt. I work for a feed premix mfg, and talk to feed companies all the time, and I have never heard of a horse ODing on loose salt.
