Becky Hart has told me that her world champion horse Rio has an exceptionally large heart.  And he literally wanted to win.

hi michelle,  yes, there is one conformational ingredient he had that was not visible, but very apparent.   A BIG HEART!  :-)   i think that is what sets some horses apart from others.   and seriously, in a literal sense it can make a difference.   when the great race horse secretariat died, he was autopsied.  his heart was healthy, not diseased, but nearly twice normal size for a horse of his stature.    ed
