Re: [RC] Toloumne Meadows - Jeannie Gillen

Dear Floyd,

I think I contacted you about camping and riding in your area during Mule
Days......I never heard back from you ?

Anyway...about Tuolumne Meadows.....it is beautiful...
the horse camp is at the back of the regular people camp, you have to drive
through the people camp and then there is a gate. It is actually very
private once you get there......It is also right at the trailhead...you are
immediately on trail.....and can choose to go to the top of the
mountains.....11,000 feet.....ride through the meadows with water crossings,
bridges and lots of lakes.....or ride to Teyama Lake....on mostly level
trail.....It is mountainous, and rocky.....the ride to Glen Aulen Falls was
the most rocky.....but also the most beautiful.....at one point you came
around a corner, and the spray of the falls hits you (and your horse) in the
face......it is beautiful

There are stairstep and switchback type rocks....sometimes we got off and
led the horses......they never pulled a shoe or came up lame in a week of
riding

They don't open until the snow melts enough for the roads to
clear....usually late June or early July.....you can get reservations
online....The camp itself is nestled in the trees, there are 4 sites,
accommodating 6 people, 2 rigs,and I think 4 horses....You have to tie line,
or set up portables....we have done both, and now prefer the tieline. There
is water, toilets, fire rings, tables and lots of trees.......there are also
usually lots of mosquitos.......

So......now how about us coming up at Mule Days...can you show us where to
camp (we are completely self contained) and where to ride?????

Jeannie

My Favorite...Toloumne Meadows at Yosemite.

Hi Jeannie:

I moved from Norman Oklahoma, 2 years ago and have done three
50-milers.

By car I have visited Yosemite.

Please tell me something about location, facilities and trails at
Toloumne. Thank you,
