[RC] "Panacur purge" - Heidi SmithThe 5-day DOUBLE dose of Panacur or Safeguard sounds expensive. Safeguard, at 11 cents per ml (when you buy it as a 1000 ml bottle) x 46 ml per double dose (for 1000# horse--obviously less for smaller ones) x 5 days = $25.30, which isn't all that expensive. Will giving a double or triple dose of Pyrantel wormer be just as effective and not as expensive? No. That's for tapes, but is not effective against the encysted strongyles. I dunno what a dose of pyrantel costs, but if it doesn't work doubled or tripled, it isn't cheaper.
