Re: [RC] Bute 4 days before racing - JackieThe facts: First, she has stitches. Second, the vet thought she needed a shot of bute. Third, this happened 4 days before a ride. Depends on where the stiches/injury is... I've had stitches in my head before, but didn't affect my athletic ability. I've also had numerous cuts on my legs or hands (that probably should have had stiches - but to stubborn to go get them) that also didn't affect my athletic abilities. I think the same applies to horses. I took my mule to a ride with two unexplaned injuries (probably from scratching on a tree). They were just surface wounds, but didn't affect her (and it was only an intro 10 mile ride). Vet asked what they were from, examined them, said she was fine to start. The Vet thought that the horse needed a shot of bute that day. If he still isn't recommending that the horse needs bute (and it falls outside the 96 hour window) AND the horse seems OK, I don't see a problem. The horse will have to get past the ride vet. I'm sure he/she will see the injury. If he sees no problem with it, then I don't either. Just my opinions... __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
