I just bought a stethoscope, because I'm going to
start CTRs this year with my 7yo Arab / Rocky Mountain Horse.
His resting pulse was 28 when I checked it
today.
Then we went for about an hour's ride, about 2/3
walking and 1/3 trotting. (Windy day, so I didn't want Mach-10 spooking
going on.) Most of the trotting was on the way home - and we didn't walk
the last bit, either. We trotted right up to the barn, I got off and
walked him inside, and then immediately checked his pulse. It was around
50.
At 10 minutes, he was down to 38. I didn't
check it again, just turned him out in the pasture to walk around with his
buddies, since I had to get to an appointment.
What I want to know is, are these numbers good or
bad?? I have nothing to compare them to. You can reply directly to
sharon1359@xxxxxxxxxxx if you
like.
