[RC] re:re: Sore back Slipping saddle pad - Judy HouleStephanie, Foam inserts do make a difference in weight distribution. One I really like, that I used for years on top of my Woolback was a thick neoprene PBM Pad. It made a Sharon Sarre that was a size off, fit OK and cause no problems for years. I'm not sure where to get them these days, but Cashel Cushions makes a similar one. If you want to invest in a really state of the art pad to solve saddle gall problems and add more ventilation, you can order a Supracor Pad through me at 10% off. They last for years and cushion like nothing else. I also can't say enough good things about Sport Saddles. I've had mine 6 years and done over 1000 miles of mostly hundreds with no problems. If you want to improve the fit by re-rigging your big western in the meantime, try rigging the cinch back to a 5/8 or centerfire rigging to stablize the saddle, instead of using the back cinch. This will stop the rubbing and pinching in the front. You can go look on Karen Chaton's Website, or find the link on the Mar. 25th post titled 'Sport Saddle Rigging', to see how to rig a cinch back using a long billet strap from the back cinch ring. Otherwise, get a good helmet, 'cause your mare is going to buck you off when she gets sick of getting rubbed, mares are funny that way.
