[RC] WNV Vaccine - Tamara TaylorHello list, The vaccine here in Saskatchewan costs about $40 and we have to have the vet do it as it is not yet fully approved for use in Canada. The vet has to inject it as it is conditionally released by the CFIA on what I understand is a large scale field trial. Anyway, I bought a 9 month old colt and he arrived last week. He had his initial WNV vaccination on March 5 so he is due around beginning to mid-April for his booster. At the barn this weekend I had asked for a booster of his strangles vaccine but there was a mix-up and he ended up getting a second WNV shot waaaay too early. The vet wants to give him a THIRD shot at the regular time at the beginning to mid-April. She says there is no harm in him having 3 sets. She is not charging me for the mix-up. My question is...is he going to be ok getting THREE shots! Goodness, that sounds like overvaccination if I've ever heard of it. Is there anything I should be looking for in terms of side effects?? Should I opt not to get the third shot?? Thanks, Tamara =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
