[RC] re: clipping - Teresa Van Hove

Pat,

I know that show people that clip short and blanket always leave a
saddle patch. But I was thinking more along the lines of shortening
to the 1/2" length that is their un-clipped length. But perhaps even
that would tend to create problems - OTOH the long hairs tend to get
rubbed off anyway over his loins - though not with any noticible
soreness this year. Dont know that it makes any difference but I use
wool saddle pads on this horse. BTW - I took a scissors and shortened
some of the hairs that were getting pulled by the girth about 6 weeks
ago and that has certainly not caused him any irritation.

clipped everywhere except the saddle and cinch
area and, her head and legs (as my clipping skills are quite limited).
My vet told me that I was right not to clip where the saddle will rest
because then there would be constant irritation from the saddle moving back
and forth ever so slightly as to irritate the skin when the short bristles
were worked back and forth with the movement of the saddle.

Thanks,
Teresa
