Re: [RC] small bumps on horses back - superpatHi Teresa, I am not sure that clipping a saddle patch would do anything but exacerbate the problem. I clipped my mare a few weeks ago because her coat was so long and it took such a long time for her to dry out after a ride. I placed the saddle and cinch on her and clipped everywhere except the saddle and cinch area and, her head and legs (as my clipping skills are quite limited). My vet told me that I was right not to clip where the saddle will rest because then there would be constant irritation from the saddle moving back and forth ever so slightly as to irritate the skin when the short bristles were worked back and forth with the movement of the saddle. Hope someone has some suggestions about the mysterious bumps. They are not painful just to touch, but they are to pressure ie if I rub on them ). He had a similar bump last year on his girth area. It went away on its own. I did ride quite a bit this winter (spring is looking much tougher for riding here so glad I did). I'm wondering if these could be initiated by the rubbing on the long winter coat of if they seem likely to be something else. Saddle fits pretty well and distributes pressure over its panels. NO dry spots. I'm in the process of making some holes in a couple of pads so I can keep pressure off these bumps and still ride. Am open to thoughts on what likely causes these and what is the best way to get rid of them. If the long hair causes them, maybe I'll have to clip a bit of a saddle patch next year or someting.
