Re: [RC] Rides of March - Maureen A. FagerSuper Pat said "One aspect of much of the trail that I did not enjoy was the washboard like dips that often went on for very long distances. Not easy on the horse's legs and hopefully riders rode with this recognition. ( think this may have been caused by the abundance of off road bikes that have made a maze of criss crossed trails throughout this area. In fact there were many that could be seen in the distance but when they were encountered, they were really courteous and pulled off the trails and shut off their motors)."The locals call these dips "whoop de dos" and yes they are made by the many moterbikes in the area. I know the ride management tried very hard to avoid as many whoop de dos as possible. One aspect of the increase in trailbike use in that area is that in another area of Reno, housing developements are closing off access to trails which had been used by motorbikers for years. These closures have caused a great increase of motorbike activity in the area where the ride was held. Sigh, so when trail access is closed off to one type of trail user, it can affect different users in other areas. The BLM has a machine to smooth the trails, but cannot keep up. Glad at hear you enjoyed the ride and did well. Happy Trails, Maureen Reno, NV _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 helps eliminate e-mail viruses.
