Yes that curly haired lad is the infamous Tom Sites, and as much of the 
story as we can tell because others were involved that might not want this 
story out is this< Smokey had his collarbone broken by a big brute of a man 
trying to pull Smoke apart from one of the Europeans, something about a 
blonde headed woman.  You don't have to ask many west coasters whom that 
might be.  Showers were hard to come by, we were a tough, tough unit of 
people when we arrived in Sacramento at the finish, which by the way was at 
the state fair. Ann at animal tacker and myself have the only books in 
captivity(amazon would only order them one at a time and we cut them off)

way....the GAHR was the wildest thing a person could do with both feet on 
the ground, wish we could tell all the stories...Tom Sites was only looking 
for a shower in Hannibal Mo. at the Tom Sawyer days parade, ended up 
getting the key to the city.  If you know Tom this seems normal. Never
