Re: [RC] Epiphysitis - DESERTRYDR1I bought a molly mule who was about 1 1/2 yrs old last Sept. She was just a hair shy of 14H at the withers. Now she is about 14.3H at the withers, just 6 months later. She also put on about 50+ lbs. I fed mainly timothy hay (almost free choice, there were a few times she didn't have hay in front of her 24/7), with some beet pulp (two-three cups dry measure with 4X water) with a little grain (about a cup of wet COB) and NW Supplement (a local balanced vit/min supplement). She also got a little alfalfa (dairy quality) about 1/6 or less of her daily hay ration. Now with the discussions of DJD and epiphysitis I am worried that she grew too fast. When I got her she was skinny (Body score about 2.5 or 3) and I thought maybe she was just playing catch up. She is now a body score of 4-4.5. I have never fed her with the idea of major growth, actually she gets the same rations as my horses who are both adult and maintaining their weight. Is there something else I should do? jeri =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
