RE: [RC] Nutritional deficiencies? - Snodgrass, BonnieThere was a research project done a number of years ago by the University of Kentucky (if my memory serve me), that involved hundreds of foals from TB and STB farms in Kentucky. Farms volunteered to participate. Some foals/yearlings on each farm were fed a mineral supplement in addition to their regular diet. Others got the same diet minus the supplement. I know the supplement contained copper and I think two other minerals. All the horses in the study group were tracked for several years up to and thru their racing careers. Lameness and injuries were reported back to the research group. I believe the results showed a higher rate of "bone" related injuries in the unsupplemented group. I'd be interested in reading about this study again. Anyone have connections to U of E?
