Re: [RC] Help with Saddle Pad Decision - superpat

I use a Toklat Woolback round Barrel Racing pad (as well as pure sheepskin
pads for my dressage saddle and other saddles). Under all of them, I use my
Dixie Midnight no sweat vent pad. I LOVE IT!!! It does everything the
promotional information says it does. Keeps the horse's back cooler.
Prevents the saddle from slipping, etc. But best of all, I seldom have to
wash my pads as they do not absorb sweat or dirt from the horse's back. My
pads stay white and clean with only some sweat and dirt on the edges.
Whatever pad you decide to get, pair it with the Dixie Midnight and you will
be a happy lady.

Subject: [RC] Help with Saddle Pad Decision

I need to get a new saddle pad. I've been using a square Tacky Tack pad,
but
it's too long, so I'd sewed over the excess. But longer miles (20+) have
revealed that the seam is a bad thing to have under the saddle (even
though
the pad is between the seam and my horse's back).

So now the decision of which pad to buy. I could buy a barrel racer Tacky
Tack pad that should fit just fine.

Or I could go with something completely different. I found an 85% wool pad
(the other 15% is nylon fibers) that is approximately the dimensions I
need.
But would that hold heat in? I'm guessing no, due to the number of people
(according to the archives) that use a wool or woolback pad. But would the
15% nylon cause a problem?

I have also thought of a waffle weave cotton English pad with a fleece pad
on top.

I also saw a Toklat Round Barrel Pad - Woolback for around $60. How well
do
those hold up to repeated washing? And how often do they have to be
washed?
After every ride? I'm used to just spraying off my tacky tack pad.

I have a 15" Abetta endurance saddle with a neoprene bottom and a rounded
skirt.

My budget is no MORE than $75 including shipping/taxes.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the input.
