[RC] [RC] Training/conditioning a 5 y.o. - A. PerezI have to agree with those who advise against too much speed too early. I learned this myself when I took upp jogging many years ago. The first 'hurdle' I faced was my wind, so as soon as my breathing stopped being the limiting factor, I started to push harder, thinking that as long as I wasn't out of breath I was working within my limits. Well I was within my cardio- vascular limits... but pushed beyond my skeletal limits and would up sidelined for 6 weeks (after two months into running) with a stress fracture... even though I wasn't running very fast or very far. The moral of the story I took from this is to increase distance AND speed in very gradual increments, and take time off to rest/heal. I'm a believer in every-other day training, or at least alternating training days with very slow, easy days. All the talk about 'recovery rates', pulse, and respiration in endurance makes it easy overlook muscular and skeletal conditioning: they are important too, just not as easily monitored. ________________________________________________ Get your own "800" number Voicemail, fax, email, and a lot more http://www.ureach.com/reg/tag =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
