I'm curious as to why lifting up on the balance rein or neck lariat lightens the front end. What signal does that send? I've heard of this...and have even seen it in hindsight. But, I don't understand. Several foxhunters have said lifting up on the martengale strap works in the same fashion once you train the horse to it. Comes in handy when your hands are full and you need a little half halt before a jump. I LOVE this learning stuff!
