Re: [RC] WARNING - POLITICAL delete at will! - Truman PrevattIn modern times, from say about 1900 on, the prospect of the US going to war has never been a popular one with the public. This has been the case notwithstanding the fact that there was no other option and those with access to the intelligence data (the politicians) knew war was the only option, but they were somehow not capable of convincing the American people. It seemed it always take something to jar the US population into being willing to go to war (Pearl Harbor in WWII, the Zimmerman Telegram in WWI, etc.). Those wars where there was not a smoking gun were unpopular, e.g., Korea, Viet Nam. Maybe that is all good and one of the built in checks and balances. But at some point one has to tighten his/her belt and face the fact that war is the only option.I'll end this with a quote from an anonymous solider (actually it's a quote from a very good friend of mine). The Duty of the American Solider The first duty of a solider is to tell the other side they should to talk to the State Dept. The second duty of the solider is to convince the other side they need to talk to the State Dept. The third duty of the solider, when all else fails, it to thump the other side so hard they want to talk to the State Dept. The last duty of the solider is to die for his country. The one thing you can be sure of - independent of how this all plays out - we have 1/4 million US service men and women in place to do their duty. Let's just hope if it comes it's quick and easy and they all come back home. Back to endurance.
