[RC] Alternative to GOOD hay - Roger Rittenhouse

Been having a very rough time here in East TN finding high quality hay.
--At any price. I got crap for $4.50 a 35 pnd SQ bale and rot gut round
bales for $30 and ONE good round bale for $40.

I have tried many 'sellers' of so called horse hay and get a truck load and
the gang uses it for bedding and mud fodder. LOTS of mud - so the costly
hay is dumped in the mud.

I found very nice Alfalfa, at $6.25 a bale they do clean ALL of that up.
So the cost is acceptable since there is no waste.
Looking for an alternative, I get Alfalfa cubes for $6.25 50 pnd bag. Beet
pulp for $5.75
I dump a 5 gal bucket of cubes in a BIG double wheel - wheelbarrow. Soak
over night and add more water in the AM -then a 5 gal bucket dry BP. Add
water to make a wet slop.
Mix it all up and make piles of this on top of the crap hay. They of course
love it and no waste.

The cost is less then the junk hay. A bag of cubes and bag of BP last about
3 days. I feed 7 head.
Do the math and this is a great ROI. Even if I feed the mix 2 times per
day.
I also feed up to 2 bales of the alfalfa hay. Normally only one bale of
good hay when I feed the mix, two on days when I dont have the time to make
it up.
