Re: [RC] scams - Barbara McCrary

I've received well over 100 of these, from one person or another, somewhere
in Africa, since May of 2002.  I recently read an article in our local
newspaper that recommends forwarding any of these to the following
government e-mail address:  419.fcd@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The article said to forward the scam e-mails and then delete.  Yes, they are
scams, big-time!  I was interested enough in them to put them all into a
file and save them, just in case someone in the federal government wanted
them.  I was right about that, because there was the article in our paper
asking for them, hoping to see if some sort of pattern could be determined
and the perpetrators caught.  I forwarded the 100+ e-mails on Feb. 20th, and
I already have 8 since then.  Sometimes I receive two in one day, at other
times none for several days.

I got one of the emails from a woman saying she was a
Bank President from S. Africa and she wanted me to set
up an account that she could transfer 126 million
dollars to.  Sounds similar to the horse buying scams.
 For those of you that have received emails like this,
did you send the emails to the police?
