Re: [RC] UMECRA - would you go to a ride if you couldn't use your portable pen? - Kristi SchaafHi Karen - With NATRC, the rule is that you have to have "like" stabling conditions; so all horses have to be tied to the trailer, or all tied to a hitch post, or all in a stall, etc etc. As for Brushy Creek's hitch posts - they are HUGE. I can't imagine that there is any way a horse could pull them out. They're something like 10 feet in the ground, and the posts and cross rail are the size of telephone poles. With two horses, it's best to tie them at opposite ends on the poles so they can't remove each others' halters, etc (spoken from experience). I personally won't tie more than two horses to these, though I have seen the locals tie up to six! Kristi Kristi, I thought with NATRC you had to tie to trailers..... How high is the hitch rack? Personally, I dislike "hitchracks", and rarely use them-most are much too low, and potential for horse to slide rope along, unless there are rings set in the hitch rack; shimmy around the ends, etc. I have rarely seen a wood hitchrack that couldn't be pulled out! That said, I firmly believe horses should stay where tied.... no matter what sort of thing they are tied too...but tying overhead (picket line, high tree branch, etc,), is SO much safer.
